resentation Spirit

The communal identity of any network of schools is based on its sense of shared experiences, common origin, and collective vision. Eventhough the schools operate in the first instance within their own particular context and value their sense of independence they are also very conscious of the larger Presentation family of schools. This corporate sense of identity which has lived over the past two hundred years and which still informs values and practices in the schools is described as the special Presentation Spirit. CARE has been identified as the core value animating this spirit. Other key values which capture the essence of this spirit are:

a) Holistic Education
b) Building community and respecting the dignity of each individual
c) Edmund Rice and the Presentation legacy

Holistic Education:
All the schools place huge emphasis on the importance of extracurricular and co-curricular activities in their educational programmes. A wide spectrum of activities is promoted across the network. Students are enabled to develop their talents.

Building community and respecting the dignity of the individual
A core sense of the special Presentation Spirit is crystallised around what the schools describe as their sense of community or togetherness as Christian teachers and learners. This sense of ownership of the mission and identity of the educational enterprise is the key that creates a happy teaching and learning environment.

Edmund Rice and the Presentation Legacy
The tradition in the schools draws its inspiration from the gospel of Jesus Christ and the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. Edmund’s core philosophical tenet was that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and attaining full human dignity and that this educational experience can only reach its full potential when spiritual values inform the curriculum, relationships and ethos of the school.
